At Wichita School of Performing Arts, classes are offered from beginning through advanced levels and all varieties of dance. Classes run fall through spring with some younger dance classes available for shorter sessions in the spring. Summer sessions run three weeks in June followed by out-of-state college programs and re-conditioning classes are offered through the month of August. Each spring WSPA features a spring performance for students who have been enrolled since fall.
Additionally, WSPA offers a Dance Repertoire Theatre by audition every other year. Dancers in repertoire are featured in a fall concert and other community performing opportunities throughout the year.
Ballet
Classical Ballet classes are available to all students and offered daily. WSPA has taken this timeless art form and given it a Light & Fun direction while remaining focused on the structure and discipline of the technique. Our unique approach makes it possible for all students to grasp and offers each of them the tradition of Classical Ballet training yet making it attainable. Classes in Ballet are primarily Checcetti based with strong influences in Russian and Bournonville technique for more experienced dancers.
Pointe
These classes are for students who have been training in classical ballet for a period of time and have demonstrated a certain level of accomplishment in their work. Students interested in Pointe class must be deemed ready by the artistic director for study in this technique.
Tap
Tap classes are a fun way to Rhythm your way through the day. Our Rhythm Tap classes are offered for all students and are a fun way for each student to develop a musical ear. Learning more about music and phrasing, while building your tap skills will assist each student in unlocking their own wings and rhythm style. OUR Artistic Director has studied with some of the Legends of Rhythm Tap such as Gracey Tune, Eddie Brown, Chuck Green, Steve Condos, Bunny Briggs, Dianne Walker, and Sam Weber.
Jazz
WSPA offers classes in Classical Jazz, Lyrical, and Jazz Funk. Student who have trained in ballet and continue there ballet training receive better results in this art form in terms of strength and technique.
Modern
WSPA offers a strong Modern program. Our fun approach to exploring new movement in this technique helps our students develop a broad base to build on.
Hip-Hop
Is a form of Street Jazz. This form of dance is more of a fad and changes with time. It can be a more pedestrian approach to movement.
